Mercer Raceway Park wrapped up the month of August on Saturday night with the Auto Racers for Kids Charities event. It was night four of four in the 2010 Bonnell’s Collision Center Sprint Shootout Series that also featured events at Sportsman’s Speedway, Eriez Speedway, and Raceway 7. Celebrating in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic Victory Lane were Jack Sodeman, Jr.-Luxaire Heating & Cooling (410) Sprint Cars, Russ Byler & Jeff Walters-Big Daddy’s Speed Center Stock Cars, and Tim Callahan-M&D Paving Mini Stocks.

It is a rare occasion indeed, when so much fun and revelry can be part of a ‘working’ evening, but such was certainly the case on this night. Many of the stars, real and self-imagined, of the western PA racing scene were on hand for the festivities, lending an air of the surreal to the proceedings.

Mercer Raceway Park was able to complete the July 24 make-up features for the Luxaire Heating & Cooling Sprint Cars and the 4 Your Car Connection FASTRAK Late Models before the rain finally hit during the first BRP Modified Tour heat race washing out the Bill Emig Memorial.

It was a welcome relief as sunny skies and no chance of rain were present over Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday night allowing for a great night of racing to be completed. Despite just a 20% chance of showers, Mercer Raceway Park battled light drizzle and showers from late afternoon through the completion of the event; however, most of the heavier precipitation stayed north allowing the event to be completed in its entirety. Celebrating wins in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic victory lane were Jack Sodeman, Jr.-DIRTcar Challenge Series for the Luxaire Heating & Cooling 410 Sprint Cars, Steve Buckwalter-ARDC Midget Cars, Lonny Riggs-Approved Toilet Rentals Modifieds, Jeff Walters-Big Daddy’s Speed Center Stock Cars, and Pete Blazczak and Tim Callahan-M&D Paving Mini Stocks.

July 31 Gallery

After a sunny start, thunderstorms developed off Lake Erie and worked their way right across Interstates 76 and 80 plowing through Mercer County and washing out the feature events Saturday night at Mercer Raceway Park.

Because all of the preliminary events were completed as per Mercer Raceway Park’s rain check policy, make-up features will be run in subsequent events. The tentative schedule will begin with Mini Stocks this Saturday night, July 31 followed by Modifieds on August 7, Sprint Cars and FASTRAK Late Models on August 14, and Stock Cars on August 21.
